Pitt County Youth Lacrosse (PCYL) is a not for profit organization that is dedicated to developing a vibrant youth program that will teach area kids, ages 5 to 15, the great game of lacrosse in a fun, positive environment. PCYL offers clinics in the fall and team play in the spring.

We have over 100 members and play in the East Carolina Youth Lacrosse League (ECYLL) with teams from New Bern, Havelock, Topsail, Kinston, Cape Carteret and Jacksonville, totaling over 1,000 members. Our teams also play in regional tournaments and against other area schools such as Parrott Academy and Outer Banks Lacrosse Club. Our players, both girls and boys, now feed into high school teams at D.H. Conley and J.H. Rose here in Greenville. These teams were started with our assistance.

We are excited that 2016 marks PCYL’s 10th year of providing kids in the Pitt County area an opportunity to play lacrosse.

Player Side Information

ECYLL and PCYL have made a commitment to our coaches and players to keep all non-essential individuals from the player side of the field. The goal of this regulation is to keep players, coaches, volunteers, spectators and referees safe and focused on the game. Only players, coaches, and volunteers working at the team bench and scorer’s table are permitted on the player side of the field. All other individuals (this includes other players not on the team that is currently playing the game) are strictly prohibited from the player side of the field during the game.

US Lacrosse youth rules already state that spectators must be on the side of the field opposite the table and bench areas. This is necessary to avoid spectators interfering with or distracting the players, coaches, scorers and timers who are in the team bench or table area. If a need arises that a parent is needed, someone from the player side will go get them. Do not come to the player side to check on your player or complain to the coach. This only distracts the entire team from focusing on the game at hand. A good standard of practice should be that parents make no contact with their children – from the time they drop off their player until after the coach dismisses all players. During that time the coaches are in charge. This is so players develop self-reliance and learn to focus on the game. Make sure that your player has all of their lacrosse gear and water bottle with them prior to going over to the player side.

ECYLL has placed limits on the number of coaches and game table volunteers. There should be no more than 3 coaches in the team bench area and no more than 3 volunteers for home games/2 volunteers for away games in the game table area.

PCYL places a line away from the sideline on the spectator side for spectators to sit behind. That line is to protect our spectators and players as players often run out of bounds or the ball gets thrown out of bounds. And it is to assist referees in having an unobstructed view of the sidelines. You will notice that not all league fields have been lined with that extra line. Be mindful to sit a ways back from the sideline if the extra line has not been provided.

Spectators and media, including photographers, are not allowed behind the end lines. This is a safety requirement to protect spectators from being hit by a lacrosse ball.

Thank you in advance for respecting these rules. We want everyone (players, coaches, spectators, referees, volunteers, etc.) at our fields to have a fun and safe experience.
